Bastard Out of Carolina; lit circle # 2

Dear Michelle, Elaine, and Ryan

What did you guys think of the book? Or at least the second part up to the paperclip of it? I mean I know we all agreed that it was boring. And it hasn't changed much. But there were some intense moments. I have a few questions though. Why did that one girl, Shannon, i think, commit suicide? I mean when I started reading, I thought BOne liked her. Or at least tried to protect her from those kids at school. I knew that she kind of hated her, too. I remember reading that part about how Bone was mad at Shannon but then they eventually made up. Shannon invites Bone to a babeque. Thats where the whole fire happens. Shannon and Bone have another arguments. She insults Shannon back after Shannon insults Bone. I think Bone is becoming more bitchier, or finally standing up for herself, now.

The intense moment is when her stepfather, Glen, rapes her twice. It was intense how the description was, I guess. Some other part that was quite intersting but not really, is when Bone catches her little sister masterbating. It is kind of gross to me that she would be doing such a thing, mostly because i think she is about 10. Is that the age when Bone started doing it too? I don't remember. I don't think that Reese, her little sister, and Bone get along much in the story later on.

I don't think any of us like this book. I wish we would have chosen something else. I mean its not the worst book. But still, I wouldn't recommend this book to alot of people like me, that don't like reading stories with too much details. In terms of details, I think this story focuses a lot on her family. The main character's point of view towards herself and how she judges others.
