Dear Elaine, Michelle, and Ryan
This week, I read the last part of the book, Bastard Out of Carolina. In the last part, I think it was probably more intense than any of the other parts in the book. I hated most of the parts in this book. I mean, its good but all the intense parts really piss me off. Its not like I have anything against it but its just that it makes me think and realize the fact that so many people might be going through thins ans we don't even realize this. I probably dont make any sense, but its okay.
Around the end of this book, When Glen goes and supposedly "tries" and talk to Bone to get her to come back. But instead of talking, he basically demand Bone to tell her mother that she wants to come back. When she doesnt agree, things get violent. & he says stuff to her, like, how much he hates her, and how everything is her fault. When Bone says, she would rather die, he says he would kill her. Reading this part got me really upset. Then when Glen starts raping her, while he tells her that she always enjoyed it, blah blah blah, That got me pissed. I mean, its mainly because I kind of know someone like this. Someone going through something similar to this.
What made me extremely angry at the book the most though was when Annie, Bone's mother, saw them and what Glen was doing to Bone, She fought him off. & then carried Bone to her truch, i think, with Glen following them. Right when Annie is about to get inside the truck, Glen starts banging his head yelling "kill me, Annie!" Right then, Annie stops him, and takes him back, with her crying! I mean, her daughter is inside BLEEDING HER ASS OFF AND IS ALMOST UNCONSCIOUS, & she is calling for you. AND SHE IS KNEELING DOWN AND FUCKING HUGGING THE MAN THAT DID THAT TO HER DAUGHTER!! How could she forgive him & go back to him just like that?! I mean this isnt the first time that has happened! What the fuck ?!
Why the author, Dorothy Allison, chose to write this book, I have no idea. Maybe something similar to this incident happened in her life? Like maybe to her or someone she knows?
