Dear Ryan, Elaine, and Michelle
So the book "Bastard Out of Carolina" was an intersting book. I mean at first when we went to the media center, I thought I would enjoy reading the book after Sutherland described it. But once I started reading, I just go soo boring. There were too much details in it. I know you guys felt the same too. We all thought it was boring. But then after a few chapters, I think it was chapter 5, where I was hella shocked, & went from "oh my god, this book is hella boring" to "oh shit, what just happened?!"
I don't know if Bone's mother did the right thing when she married Glenn, but I think she married him because she thought that he would be a good father to her kids. But it turned out not to be because he changed so much after they got married. One thing I didn't like about the story was that Bone doesn't tell anyone about what Glen did to her in the car/truck.
Michelle, I think Glen targets Bone the most because he knows that she could tell her mother or anyone about what he did to her, and then the mother would end up leaving him, snd he doesnt want that. I could be wrong, but I think that is the reason.
I haven't finished reading the book, but a few questions I have is, Will she ever tell her mother or her aunts what happened? Will she ever get out of that place? Will Glen finally get a steady job? And be able to support the family?
The setting is around the times where black people were still being discriminated against, I think. Because, when One of the Aunt moves out of her husband's house, (for cheating on her) , she goes out and finds an apartment, there are black people living near there place, and the husband and the men tell them to not talk to them and stuff.
So far, I like the story, Hopefully it doesn't give details that we don't really need, or that are boring. and hopefully Bone goes ahead and tells someone about what Glen has done to her.
Well, that's all I have to say about this book for now.
Until next week,
Asmita
